How To Become A Vegetarian In 7 Steps

By Jamie Rivera

So you want to become a vegetarian, you're ready to leave meat behind. Congratulations! You'll find vegetarianism to be a healthy change in your life. Right now, you might be anxious to start being a vegetarian, but are faced with a very simple question - how do I do it? While the answer might sound simple enough (stop eating meat), we know old habits die hard. So here's seven steps to make the switch.

1. Have a strong motivation. Start by answering why a question - why do you want to become a vegetarian? Becoming a vegetarian after years of having meat in your diet is not easy. It's necessary to have great motivation behind your choice or you will fail.

2. Learn about it. Start reading about vegetarianism, watch videos, talk to other vegetarians. Basically get grasp of what it is and what it's not. This is also a good time to start searching for vegetarian recipes that you might find delicious.

3. Pace your self. A change in diet is nothing more than a change in habit. If you know you won't be able to go cold shoulder, don't. Instead, make a smooth transition from foods with meat to foods without. Slow and steady wins the race

4. Substitution. Start replacing the meat dishes with vegetarian meals. Instead of eating that cheeseburger, eat a veggie burger with 2 slices of soy cheese. I strongly suggest you at least start replacing and phasing away all red meats.

5. Meat abstention day. Choose any day of the week and commit to eating vegetarian meals only. This will get you comfortable with the idea eating vegetarian. As you get comfortable, start expanding those meatless days until you're doing the entire week.

6. Friends. Surround yourself with vegetarians. The company you keep has a great influence on what you do. Vegetarians are, for the most part, very friendly and nice. More importantly, their presence will keep on the track to becoming a vegetarian. - 31843
